Lynden holds off on Homestead's water rights while the golf course's new owner files its own claim

What happened: Lynden wants to keep the water rights tied to the Homestead neighborhood and its closed golf course.

Those rights could go back to the state if no one claims them in the court case that sorts out who owns which water in the Nooksack basin.

Cascadia Daily News reports the claim deadline is in 2027.

On Oct. 5 the City Council voted to start taking over the rights, Cascadia reports.

On Oct. 19 the council paused until its November meeting. The company that now runs the golf course and common areas says it will file its own claim first.

Separately, the state Court of Appeals ruled that homeowners should get money back for fees charged under rules a court had already struck down.

What's next: The Lynden City Council's November meeting.
