A Bellingham board votes Nov. 10 on removing some parking on Holly Street downtown

What happened: Bellingham's Transportation Commission votes Nov. 10 on removing parking along parts of Holly Street.

The stretch runs from Broadway to Champion Street, through downtown.

The change is part of a City project to rebuild Holly Street for walking, biking, buses and cars.

The agenda does not say how many spaces would go.

A 2024 trial used parked cars to shield the bike lane. It drew more than 1,300 comments, the City says.

In 2025 the City switched to bike lanes separated by painted buffers instead.

The City has $1.5 million in grant money for the project and says that covers only part of the cost.

Construction is expected from winter to summer 2027, the City says.

What's next: the Commission meets Tue. Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. The agenda lists it as a vote to approve.
